1. Who we are
“TDS Audit for Tally” (the “Extension”) is a Chrome extension developed and maintained by Jayansh Jalani – CA Automation Suite (“we”, “us”). The Extension helps chartered accountants and finance professionals review TDS deductions recorded in Tally against the Income-tax Act, 2025 (section 393) and, for earlier years, the Income-tax Act, 1961.
The Extension is an independent tool. It is not made, endorsed or sponsored by Tally Solutions Pvt. Ltd. “Tally”, “TallyPrime” and “Tally.ERP 9” are trademarks of their respective owners.
2. Information the Extension works with
To perform an audit, the Extension handles the following information. All of it stays on your device.
| Category | What it includes | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Tally accounting data | Company name, ledgers, vouchers, party names, amounts, dates, narrations and TDS-related details that exist in the Tally company you choose to audit. | Read from your local Tally server (by default http://localhost:9000) into the Extension in your browser. Not sent to us or to any third party. |
| Engagement details you type | Client name, firm name, firm registration number (FRN), annexure title, “prepared by” and “reviewed by” names, financial year, period, rounding tolerance and section choices. | Used in the audit and the Excel report. Settings may be remembered in your browser’s local extension storage so you do not have to re-enter them. Not sent to us. |
| Audit results and reports | Findings, reconciliations, voucher review results and the Excel file you choose to export. | Generated in your browser and saved only where you choose on your own computer. |
We do not ask for, and the Extension does not collect, your name, email address, location, browsing history, or any account credentials.
3. What we do not do
- We do not collect, transmit or store your Tally data, engagement details or audit results on any server.
- We do not sell, rent, trade or share any user data with anyone.
- We do not use analytics, telemetry, crash-reporting, advertising or tracking technologies in the Extension.
- We do not use your data for creditworthiness, lending or any purpose unrelated to the Extension’s single purpose of auditing TDS.
- We do not load or execute remotely hosted code. All code runs from the package you installed from the Chrome Web Store.
4. How the Extension connects to Tally
Tally exposes an optional local server on your own computer. When you click Connect, the Extension sends requests to the address shown in the “Tally address” box (default http://localhost:9000) to list open companies and read vouchers. This traffic stays on your machine (or on the local network address you yourself enter). If you point the address to another computer, that connection is made at your direction and is subject to your own network and Tally configuration.
The “Try with demo data” option uses a built-in synthetic company and does not need Tally.
5. Permissions the Extension requests
The Extension asks only for the browser permissions it needs to work:
- Access to your local Tally server address – to read vouchers from Tally running on your computer.
- Storage – to remember your settings and engagement defaults locally in your browser.
- Downloads – to save the Excel report to your computer when you export it.
These permissions are used only for the purposes described above.
6. Data retention and your control
Because we hold no copy of your data, there is nothing for us to retain, export or delete on our side. Data kept in the Extension’s local storage stays on your device until you clear it. You can remove it at any time by clearing the Extension’s data in Chrome (chrome://extensions → the Extension → remove), or by uninstalling the Extension. Excel reports you export are ordinary files on your computer and remain under your control.
7. Security
Keeping processing on your own device is the main safeguard: your client’s data does not travel over the internet because of this Extension. You are responsible for securing your computer, your Tally data and the Excel reports you create, in line with your professional confidentiality obligations to your clients.
8. Chrome Web Store User Data Policy
The use of information received from Chrome APIs and from your Tally data will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
9. Children
The Extension is a professional tool intended for accountants and finance professionals. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
10. Not professional advice
The Extension is an audit aid. Its output depends on the data in Tally and the settings you choose, and it does not replace professional judgement. You remain responsible for verifying results before relying on them or signing any report.
11. Changes to this policy
If the Extension’s data practices change, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date above before the change takes effect. Material changes will also be reflected in the Extension’s Chrome Web Store listing.
